Answers:
Depends upon why it's stiff i the first place!.!.!
If you were in a car wreck or something, then you'd have to immobilize it or do what the doctor said!.!.!.
On the other hand, if you just slept funny, then taking an OTC anti-inflammatory medication like Motrin or Advil will help, along with rolling your shoulders and neck *gently*!. It's not immediate, but it should help some!.
Doctors will almost always tell you to use ice to reduce pain, but as a nurse, I know that the majority of people hate ice and will not follow those instructions!.!.!.so if you fall in to that category and refuse ice, then you can use a cold-as-you-can-stand-it compress on the neck, which is at least a compromise!.
Some folks refuse cold/ice packs completely and resort to using heat, which, if it helps you feel mobile--is better than nothing!.
If it isn't better within a day or so, you can call a chiropractor or visit your MD!. If you have someone at home who can massage your neck, shoulders and base of your skull (and you are 100% sure you have no *injury*), then by all means, allow someone to rub the area with gentle pressure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
