2nd surgery required?!

Question: 2nd surgery required!?
I had knee surgery a little over a year ago for major tearing of the PCL, minor tearing of the lateral meniscus along with debris removal and arthritis removal!. I am 26 y/o!. I did full physical therapy and am very active!. I compete with horses and have a 2 y/o daughter!. Over the past 6 months my knee has gotten worse!. it continually locks up, is always swollen, and always hurts!. When I walk I feel like I have balloons all in my knee that are aired up!. I went back to the original surgeon, but he gave me a cortisone shot and blew me off!. I have scheduled a an appt for a 2nd opinion!. My question is, has anyone ever had to have additional surgeries for an injury!? It just seems that the 1st surgery was suppose to help with the pain and injury but in reality it is worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is not too uncommon, and it is good you are going for a second opinion!. Sometimes the knee undergoes further tearing or a reoccurance of the original injury!. We've had one young man in our clinic who had to have his ACL revised twice after the surgeon insisted we weren't "pushing" him hard enough!.!.!.turned out he was having pain because he tore his graft not because he wasn't working hard enough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My daughter had tears in her meniscus repaired a year ago!. She is still having problems, and the MRI came back as inconclusive!. She is going back in for surgery in a couple of weeks, to see what is going on!. Like you, she said it is getting worse all the time!.
However when she first had the repair done, the Ortho did tell her that this type of repair was only a 50/50 chance of healing!. She is 27, so the Dr doesn't want to remove the entire meniscus, but it looks like that may be the only option left!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my mom broke her ankle (it snapped, twisted and jammed back in) and she has had a ton of surgeries!. she had a rod inserted which ended up messing up her knee so she went back to have the screws out, the rod out, she's had multiple knee drainings and shots!.

unfortunately, your knee is a hard thing to heal because it's easy to fill with fluid!. this may be something you have to have done or you may just need shots every so often or a drain of the fluid!.
