What's Up With My Knee??? Please Help if you Can!!!!?!

Question: What's Up With My Knee!?!?!? Please Help if you Can!!!!!?
About a month ago, my right knee started being a little weird!. It makes a soft cracking noise when i squat, and it never used to do this!. Im also experiencing some pain, though it is bearable!. My knee usually doesn't hurt at all when im just walking, but when i twist my leg or bend my knee a certain way, i feel a little bit of pain and it feels weird like something is moving in there!.

Im soooo scared! Im only 16 and im worried i will have to get surgery or something!. My uncle had surgery on his knee and they messed it up and now he can't walk well or exercise at all!. I don't want that to happen to me!. I don't want to be confined to sitting for the rest of my life!. What do you think this is!? Does it sound severe!? What can i do to make it better!?(Oh and i plan on seeing a doctor for an MRI soon)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Knees are held together by two tendons called Meniscus!. They are easy to pull or stretch if the knee gets twisted!. Even a fairly small twist can make them hurt for weeks!.
Surgery is usually only performed on sports people or if a bad injury gets worse over many years!.!.!.your uncle probably still walks better now than he did before his surgery!.
Yours sounds like it will get better if you try not to twist it (ed not a good time to take up golf)!. The something moving in it is the kneecap, which moves in everybody!.
Calcium is good for the bones; if you can try drinking milk, it also has protein for building muscle!. The stronger your leg muscles become the less chance of the knee twisting again!.
Dont waste money on an MRI, this kind of knee problem fixes itself in a few months!.

Considering your age and the symptoms you describe most likely you are experiencing a condition called Patellofemoral pain syndrome!. This is where your knee cap is not tracking properly for a variety of reasons!. It could be that you have weak hip and thigh muscles, flat feet, have gone through a growth spurt in the past 6-12 months or any combination of those factors!. The crackling noise you hear is called crepitus and its the underside of your knee cap rubbing on your distal femur (end of the thigh bone)!. It is a good idea for you to see a doctor, an orthopedic doc would be best and then go through physical therapy for several weeks!. This should solve your knee pain!. I seriously doubt that you will need surgery so try to stay upbeat about the situation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Please go to your doctor!. I have struggled with an eating disorder for the last 20 years!. Right now I am at 98 pounds!. I have learned that not eating destroys your ability to use calcium and other vitamins the way that it should!. I have had problems with my knee that started like yours!. I had an MRI about 6 weeks ago and the cartilage is gone and floating around my knee!. I also have bone marrow swelling cause yet to be determined, however I am certain that it is because of all the years of not eating!. You are so young, please do not mess up your life by not eating, if you have to have surgery, please eat and drink ensure to build up your body so that it can heal!.(Eat just for you and so that you can avoid all the complications the ugly world of eating disorders brings upon us!. I know it is not as simple as, "just eat"!. I still hate those words but I have found that an eating disorder is not aboutt being in control- it is abou a total loss of control!. Please go get your knee checked out because it could have already affected other bones in your body!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Great a chance to play House!.!.!. Symptons seem vague Cracking Noise, Bearable Pain, feeling as if something is moving seems to suggest at worst a!.!.!.

Osteochondritis Dissecans Injury

Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) of the knee is a disorder where fragments of bone break off from the knee joint surface!. This interferes with normal knee joint function and causes knee pain and swelling!. The condition usually presents itself to patients in their teenage years but the disorder may appear in later life, where it is associated with the degeneration of knee arthritis!.

The MRI will examine the bone density around the knee joint to see if there is anything out of place!.

The therapy for a young adult they would require 6-12 weeks of routine modification or leg bracing!.!.!. only if this doesn't work will surgery be needed!. You may need physiotheraphy afterwards!.

I wouldn't worry about what your uncle has, you are young and with proper diet you should be able to recover from these problems!. Chances are you don't have juevenile arthritis because it's doesn't seem to be excruciating enough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you were anorexic for a long period of time (6 months or more) this could be the problem!. When you are anorexic, you are not only starving your body of calories, but vital nutrients it needs as well!. If you weren't getting enough calcium, as i assume you weren't, this can cause your bones to weaken and your bone density to decrease!. Also, your joints could be sufferring from your anorexia as well!. My best advice is to go see your doctor!. He should know whats up!. If you do have to get surgury, it isn't going to be fun, and you're going to be restricted in your activities for awhile!. But you are young, and you should make a full recovery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
