Doctors "Practice"!!?!

Question: Isn't is it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice"?

In a way it is especially when it comes to conditions that they end up becoming most familiar with as a result of Medical School. But in another way I can see why it is called "Practice". The reason is because there are still conditions and diseases they are trying to learn about such as endometriosis.
