Can a change in shoes cause shooting lower back pain?!

Question: I have had pain in my back for about a week and a half now. It started getting better as last week went by. The pain was pretty much central to my lower back, and then it seems to migrate to the left buttock. I did feel some numbness down to my left foot and my left leg. Today I have experienced random shooting pain while walking that is so bad it stops me in my tracks. I have read here that could be the sciatic nerve. However, I do know that I wore the same shoes to work for a long time and I just changed them a few days before I started developing the pain. The only other time in my life I have had pain like this was under similar circumstances when I switched shoes after wearing a certain pair for a long time at work.

It's possible but the easiest way to determine this is to try and switch back to your old shoes again and see if this makes a difference. It does sound certainly like a sciatic nerve is being impacted, perhaps the difference in posture (and all shoes affect our posture) is the cause? If it still continues then you'll need a doc visit to determine the cause.
