My veins are clapsing so I'm getting a port Thur?!
Question: does it hurt?
Answers: does it hurt?
Hi Alex,
I'm sorry you're having this trouble. There are different types of vascular access. From your calling it a port. I'm going to guess you're having outpatient surgery to implant this (?). There are two types. The first, is an IV that is placed mid-collar bone, a few inches lower. They'll make you comfortable for that. A second type of central port, is essentially a large IV that's under the skin. There's a diaphragm that a needle can repeatedly enter. Pain is minimal. You'll be given some IV sedation, plus possibly some more injected @the site. Ask your surgeon about this if you're very worried about post-op pain. You'll be a little sore for a couple of days. Then? No more getting stuck again & again, only to watch your IVs blow. Good Luck, buddy.
