Can you give nitroglycerin to a child?!

Question: If so, under what circumstances?

Answers: If so, under what circumstances?

This is for IV only, oral dose not established in children

Children: Pulmonary hypertension: Continuous infusion: Start 0.25-0.5 mcg/kg/minute and titrate by 1 mcg/kg/minute at 20- to 60-minute intervals to desired effect; usual dose: 1-3 mcg/kg/minute; maximum: 5 mcg/kg/minute

If you want to blow them up. I'm not saying it's the thing to do, I'm just saying you can.

p.s. it is used in the manufacture of explosives, I didn't think it was a serious question. sorry.

Don't you need to be asking a medical professional about this not a bunch of unknown people........

you don't mean 'glycerin' minus the 'nitro' bit do you? Glycerin can be used to soothe sore throats. I'd be somewhat concerned if you were giving ANYONE nitroglycerin!

i wouldn't until i talked to a dr......it knocks an adult off their feet...imagine what it does to a child....i've had it given to me...didn't get out of bed....

There wouldn't be any good reason to give a child nitroglycerin under any circumstances. It is used primarily to control angina which is associated with coronary artery disease which usually takes years to develop and usually the person is already an adult or given after a heart attack. It works by relaxing the blood vessels to allow the blood to flow more freely. In children the conditions warranting the use of nitroglycerin would not be present. Administering nitroglycerin to a child would not have any beneficial affect and could possibly have a detrimental affect.

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NO!!!!
Nitro works by opening up your blood vessels, possible causing fainting or worse.
Also I am assuming the nitroglycerin is for you, or another family member.
NEVER GIVE ANYONE MEDICINE, NOT PRESCRIBED TO THEM.
If your child is suffering from chest pain, take hi/her to the er IMMEDIATELY!

ive never heard of a any other physcian prescribing nitro for a child with any heart trouble. Those pills are so small and even breaking it into a 1/4 if you could i would be afraid...

if you cant get a pulse or a heartbeat and your miles from help worse case scenrio i would take a 4th and rub it on his gums , because at this point the child will expire anyway, there could be chance in hell but i dont know what would happen with bp or any other of the vitals,,, i would as a cardioligist on the phone anonmously what he felt. Nitro is not something to play with

wow firechick
looks like u found all the grumpy people on yahoo
