How do I know if my knee is really injured?!

Question: A couple of weeks ago, I was on vacation and did a LOT of walking. The third day, my right leg was really stiff, and in the middle of the day I started having intense pain in the back right side of the knee whenever it would bend. It's been hurting on and off for the last three weeks. Sometimes it's just fine, and sometimes I can barely walk. It seems to get worse after sitting for a long time or walking for a long time. There hasn't been any swelling or bruising. I don't want to go to the doctor and say "oh, it feels fine now, but yesterday..." but I don't want to walk on an injured knee and make it worse. Help!!!

If I had to guess, I wouldn't say it's "injured." I do know, though, that over-use of joints can lead to pain and inflammation of tendons, etc. I think it's safe to have it checked out. Just tell the doctor that the pain isn't constant, that it does come and go, but that you are still concerned because when it DOES hurt, it hurts pretty bad.

You have pulled a muscle from over excersising. Put some ice on it and it will take the pain away.

go to a doctor

get an X-Ray

I think you just strained it from walking too much. Give it a rest, and just to minor exercises each day.. don't push yourself.

look for any marks and push some sides of your knee and see if it hurts.

its always safer to go to the doctor, to make suree.

did you walk fast? slow?

If it hurts it is injured..go get it checked out

i would go to the doctor just to be safe, but you could always do the old thing, alternate between hot and cold on the knee when it hurts and takes some ibprofen, if it doesnt start feeling better go to the dr!

if you explain the symptoms to a physiotherapist he/she will know what to do or at least refer you to a proffessional that will

Ice it, and give it some rest. If the pain is still continuing i would see a doctor.

I am a doctor and a knee specialast so i know exactly wat u have.acoording to wat u say it matches the resuls of a pulled muscle or u might have torn a tendon so i would reccomend seeing a doctor and going through phisical therapy to regain the tissues and muscles

yea its prolly a pulled muscle...
BUT if you go in for a knee injury they can take an MRI which will show any tears in your ligaments and tendons in your knee. SO even if it doesnt hurt they can see if anythings actually hurt in there. So no worries if you go in to the doc.
I would go in because its been three weeks

I think you have pulled a muscel. You should go and check it out at the doctors

Dude you probably pulled a musle from over walking! No need to go to a doctor... Just keep it streched by walking around the house for a minute or so once an hour... Also icy hot heat rub and patchs help. If you over excersise then don't keep streched your muscles try to heal themselves by tightining up...

See your family doctor. It may be a bruise or just stretched out a little . Your best bet is to get it checked out....

first you need to put ice on it 2. you need to see a doc because it is most likely your back that is out not your knee.my mother had the same trouble and they got her back in and she never had trouble again with her knee

if you feel your knee is really hurt and if you started 2 feel a pain in your knee u must rest and don`t walk and walk or call a doctor and checkup maybe ur bone is cracked

You have developed synovitis.-that is swelling of the capsule surrounding the bones of your knee joint. You will need some medications-like Tab Diclofenac (Nac-50) one tab morning and one in the evening. But never take this drug on empty stomach otherwise it may produce serious gastritis, burning pain in the stomach. To avoid this take cap omeprazole 20 mg along with it. You may have to take the drugs for 3 weeks and restrict walking to a bare minimum until you are sure to be OK.Dont ever say 'I dont want to see a doctor otherwise the doctor will come to you as I have come to you this way.

Write down what you can remember, a day-to-day account, of what your knee did and do that each day forward. Call an orthopaedic doctor and make an appointment and take your notes with you so they can see what you are going through.

I ignored problems with my right knee for several years as I dealt with post polio problems and surgeries with my left leg. Big big mistake. By the time I got to the doctor about the knee, I had to have a knee replacement.

When your joints give you trouble, make an appt and go as soon as you can, that way you can sidestep serious problems and they may be able to resolve your problem in an easier way. If I had gone a few years earlier, they could have done arthroscopic surgery and helped my knee without the major surgery.

Good luck to you and keep a cane close by. Amazing how much they help me when my legs or feet are bothering me. Better safe than sorry.
