How does drinking water make hiccups go away?!
Question: Singultus (hiccups) have nothing to do with your stomach or digestion. They are caused by involuntary spasms of your diaphragm, which is your main breathing muscle http://www.becomehealthynow.com/images/o... http://whyfiles.org/204endurance_trainin... It's a big muscle, so when it contracts it's very strongly felt. Interestingly, there are two sides to the diaphragm, and the left side is responsible for the hiccups 80% of the time.
Drinking water slowly (or, from the wrong side of a glass while bending over) can compress the diaphragm and stop the spasms.
