I can't sleep...its 3 am.?!

Question: I no its New Years, that might be why I can't sleep. But I never get "hyped" up for any holiday. I just can't sleep. It's been like that the past 3 days. I can't fall asleep, then when I finally do, its not very good. And I always toss and turn and I always end up waking up early and waking in the middle of the night. And I HATE when i wake up in the night because once I'm up, my mind goes and goes and goes, like the energizer bunny, it won't shut off, millions of thoughts. Then I'm tired during the day because I didn't get much sleep. Then I repeat the process. Why is this happening??

That happened to me a lot. For what's bothering me mentally, I write down what I have to do, maybe plan out the next day based on these to-dos. That way I don't try to organize my thoughts as much while trying to sleep. I also tried an all-natural sleep 'medicine' that was probably more of a placebo than a cure. Still, since I thought it was working, I guess it did. Kind of random, but imagining a beach, mostly the sound of ocean waves might help. It's relaxing and requires enough mental effort to direct thoughts, but it's not too demanding. Hopefully, you'll just drift off. Maybe that only works for me, though!
Mattresses, pillows, and temperature have a surprising effect on sleep, so make sure all those meet your comfort standards. Don't eat/drink a some hours before going to bed. Going to the bathroom a couple times before lying down might help, too. Did you change the time you go to bed? Personally, I had to regulate that as well as the time I get up.
You say your sleeplessness has only been for the past 3 days. Stress would be my guess. You may not even be aware of it! Try seeing if there's any taxing change in your work/social life that's bothering you and take care of it the best you can during the day. Hope you find an answer somewhere from someone and that you get better!

adrenaline

I don't know. Anytime I have that problem, I use Nyquill. It is a quick fix for me.

I've had that too. Too much junky food. Just turn off everything or play some REALLY boring music.

Sounds like insomnia, you have something on your mind, that is bothering you, try taking some sleeping pills if not, then just try wearing yourself out during the day.

Try to sleep if that doesnt work, talk with your local docter about sleeping medicing, and your not the only one[note this is happening to me right now]

i got the same problem.....i try not to think about sleeping....i stay up doing something until i am really really tired and than go to bed...regardless of how much sleep i'll get.....keep doing this for couple days and you'll be on track.
and if nothing works....you can always come over...i'll cuddle with you and make you fall a sleep.

Take a hot path, it might help

sounds like to me that your thought process is keeping you from relaxing.(you said your thoughts race). Just try to slow down. calm your mind and focus on something else. melatonin (a natural sleep aid ) might help

Don't go to bed very early make habit the same time take a nice warm bath and don't eat and drink late make sure 3hours after your meal before going to bed.Take a glass of warm milk with a little bit of honey that will me you sleep.I've that experienced before I 'm very tired and irretable because of lack of sleep and I can't concentrate of my work.

You might be under stress or just worn out. Try eating a light snack followed by a glass of milk this will cause your body to use energy digesting your food. I count a lot when I'm tired i once got to 2400 around abouts there or so... It was like a half an hour. Counting will stop you from thinking about anything
