How old do you have to be to donate blood?!

Question: I remember in school, we had a blood drive, and it was mainly the seniors that went, but when I'm that age, I would like to donate blood. Is the age 18 or 16? I'm asking because of the drive we had at school, they wouldn't come to a high school if no one was old enough, right? I remember them saying you had to be a certain weight too?

I think 16 with a parents written permission but I'm not really sure and you make a point , why go to a high school if everyone is under 18 , also I commend you for wanting to do this , I do it 4 times a year and hopefully I am able to help save someones life.

Good for you and Happy New Year

You must be healthy,at least 17 years old or 16 years old if allowed by state law, and weigh at least 110 pounds. "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. Report It

  • It is age 17 and you have to be at least 115 lbs

i thiink its 18 now...or at least in the state i live in

    18.

    16 with parental consent.

It might vary from state to state.

    its 18

    Canada 18,
    US 21,
    Europe 19,

    18. and you also have to wait if you recently had a tattoo of peircing.

16 same thing at my school, they bumped the age down because they needed more blood donations i guess, but it was always 17

you have to be17 years and weigh at least 110lbs.
im a first responder so i have to know this infor.

    16 with a parents permission
    18 without consent

    16. you also cant have any new tattoos or piercings that are a year young. they say you have to be a healthy weight.

In most states the legal age for donation is 18, weight is not an issue anymore, they will test your blood to make sure you are not anemic, but other than that, there is no issue.

it depends on the state you are in check out www.americanredcross.com

it also depends on weight, recent tats / piercings, been out of country lately, that kinda thing

18 you have to be a Adult and a certain weight, over your height, or BMI. Good Luck I had my pin for ten donations.

Actually I don't really know...All I know is that I was five when I first donated blood and I wasn't a fat child at all.

    Depends where you live

    17. 16 with parent permission and if state law allows.

Hi, I do not know about America, UK, Etc, but in Australia you can donate Blood from the age of 16 with Parents Consent or 18 without parental consent,

To find out either look up your Local Red Cross Internet site or ring your local Red Cross Center,

Plasma can be donated at an earlier age , here in Perth, W.A. it is 15, as plasma is quicker to regenerate (To form or create again) throughout your body than a pint of blood.

    Hope that helps
