What is your opinion on Universal Healthcare?!
Question: Are you for or against it? Why?
As someone who has been uninsured for quite sometime due to my small business employer not offering benefits, I am for a Universal Healthcare system. I have a longtime chronic condition that is expensive to treat, and because of this I am flat out denied coverage, even if I could afford the outrageous premiums.
If you are against a Universal Healthcare system, what are your suggestions for helping the millions of uninsured families and individuals?

I am against Universal Healthcare because the sheer idea is a broken process. What Universal Healthcare is promising is that as long as you are on American soil, you are entitled to healthcare. While it sounds all nice and cushy, the people left to pay for this is the American Taxpayer.
All the illegal immigrants who get paid under the table and put nothing towards taxes would get free healthcare paid by you and me.
The cost of healthcare would rise due to that hospitals and doctors could charge whatever they want and the taxpayer would have to pay for it.
And if the govt. runs the system, you can be assured that the ones who stand most to make money off of this is those who are trying to put this into action.
A viable alternative would be to make business' pay for their employee's healthcare and offer it as a tax deduction to help all those smaller businesses that this could stand to hurt. That way, Americans who pay taxes would get the healthcare they deserve verses those who came to America illegally.
I am for it. America has one of the worst health care systems and insurance coverage in the world.

Everyone has the right to health coverage.
I am against it because I do not want the government controlling our health (look at schools) and because it could possibly give the government power to regulate our personal choices where health is concerned. For instance, they could ban the purchase of junk foods and make it against the law not to excercise a certain amount of hours each week. Do you want that? I know some places in the US are already stepping toward such laws - like the ban on trans fat in NYC. I also don't understand why healthcare is supposed to be a basic right because food is more basic than that and we have to pay for food. People also do not realize that it is far from free - taxes are going to be insane if they do that in the US.
The problem is with the insurance companies taking advantage of people so they should do something to regulate those companies and make it more affordable - free market doesn't mean the whole industry can come together and price gouge everyone - and also provide a government sponsored health insurance which would be priced based on income and completely optional to participate in - perhaps the funding for this could come from taxes on things that detrimental to health like junk food and cigarettes. They should also put up more public health centers with basic healthcare and dental services.
