Sounds klike you have a hemearthroma and internal derangement that could mean anything from torn cartilage to rupture of your ACL, (anterior cruciate ligament.)

You need to stay off of it, kep it iced and elevated an follow up with an orthopedic surgeon.

I see an MRI in your future!

ice it
20 mins on, 20 mins off

you probably just twisted it. Try to immobilize it the best you can, and you can always take a pain killer. If you feel its something worse, have your family doctor check it out. But i think that you should be fine. Its hard to tell when I cannot examine it, but thats probably what it is. And ice it too.

Have you iced it? That might be helpful. Put an ice pack on it for awhile, then see if that helps. Usually, it's recommended to ice an injury during the first 24 hours after it happens, then apply heat. You don't have it on ice the whole time, of course, but apply ice off and on throughtout the day. Always wrap a towel around an ice pack before putting on bare skin. You can use a bag of frozen peas or other veggies as an ice pack. Pop it back into the freezer when it starts to thaw.

After 24 hours, switch to heat packs or a heating pad. That should help it heal. If you still have great pain and difficulties with it after a couple days, perhaps a doctor's visit is in order.

Get to the ER. Don't fool around.
