Does Helium kill brain cells?!

Question: does Helium kill brain cells? Like a lot of brain cells?

More then weed and alcohol?

I was sucking on helium and I fell on the floor, my boyfriend called I umm.. got it out of my pocket, put it up to my ear, and just kept on saying "hello hello hello hello hello"..the phone kept ringing because I didnt open it. after a few seconds (im guessing) i finally snapped out of it and aswered the phone.

but uhh anyway I was just wondering did I do any perminent harm?
Or kill a lot of brain cells?

Helium itself is non-toxic and does not kill brain cells directly. What happens (and the reason you pass out or fall down) is it displaces oxygen so you literally suffocate yourself. This causes your brain to be deprived of oxygen and that will kill brain cells. It's similar to drowning, except recovery is quicker because you can exhale the helium.

This is not a good practice and any harm it does do is permanent in that once the brain cells are dead they do not recover or regrow. What happens is your brain will reroute circuits as it can to compensate for the loss, but there is only so much it can do in that respect.

Helium gas cannot kill brain cells. When a person breathes helium gas that is just about all that they are breathing, other than a few trace elements and gaseous oils from the compression machinery. What you are not breathing in is regular air, mostly oxygen. A lack of oxygen in your blood is what makes you dizzy and lightheaded. To much helium means not enough oxygen means possible cellular damage.Brain damage? not from what you described.
