Lumbar puncture question?
My friend who is due to have one tomorrow want to know what it is like. Ive had a daughter by C-section and had to have an epidrual and told her that it is not that bad. But is havein an epidrual line fitted into your back the same way they do a lumbar puncture ?.
Also just how painfull is it if any pain.

I had a lumber punture that went wrong... Not meaning to scare you like, but in the end it was the third Doctor who managed to get it right. The first two attempted to do the procedure with me curled up on my side, but due to my spine bieng quite compact they couldn't get the needle in properly.
The third attempt (the following day) was successful and the specialist did it with me sitting on the edge of my bed leaning forward. This was much better...
After a lumber puncture it is very important to take the advice of the proffessionals, and be careful the first time you stand up - It's like the worst hangover in the world.
Tell your friend they will be fine and she may feel rough for a few days but that it is much better to know than not to go through it..
