Question:

Do unsupportive shoes cause swollen feet and ankles when they are used to exercise in?

i worked out yesterday. Went to a movie after that and when i got out my feet and ankles were pretty swollen. I think it could be the shoes I am wearing.

Answers:

Well, good workout shoes are a must, but I am concerned there is more going on than just unsupportive shoes.

Swollen feet and ankles are usually a result of both stress and water retention. Cut down on your salt intake, that will ease the water retention.

That means no salt out of the shaker, use lemon or lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, cayenne pepper, etc to spice your food.

By no means cut down on the water you drink, if anything, you should drink more water, to keep your system flushed.

Relax with your feet above your heart. You can lay on the floor and put them up on the couch.

Do buy a pair of good shoes that don't pinch, you can always find a good pair on sale at any sporting goods store.

If you continue to have problems after taking these measure, please see a doctor, as it may be the sign of a more serious condition. :)
