what is this sensation?!

well my mother has this buring sensation on the side of her forearm every once in a while. the only way for it to go away is if she sort of pats it. but it goes and comes with time. There are no physical signs of irritation nor are there any reasons for her to have this feeling. Please tell me any myths, believes, medical conditions, or physical circumstances that could explain this sensation
