Question: Is there an explanation for the fact that when different nurses take your blood samples!?
You sometimes have a nasty bruise while others never leave a mark!? This is by no means disparaging towards any nurse as they are wonderful people!. It is just surprising the difference when different ones do the job!.!. The same with injections and the degree of pain felt!. i mean injections that one has on a regular basis!.!. Short answer!? Skill!
I've been a trained phlebotomist (person who takes blood samples) for over ten years and I've seen at all!
There are certain medications, such as warfarin and aspirin, that make some people bruise more easily than others and the elderly tend to bruise easily too!. But in general terms of a average person bruising generally down to the skill and technique of the phlebotomist and how easy the patient is to 'bleed'!.
Traumatic venesections (taking blood), such as a patient moving during the procedure, cause bruises too!.
A good tip for avoiding bruising is to apply firm and consistent pressure to the site immediately after the needle is removed!. Continue to do so for at least a couple of minutes (longer than you think!)!. Generally this will work quite well and, if not stop a bruise totally it should help lessen one!.
Assuming that a blood test is taken from the inside of your elbow NEVER EVER lift your lower arm up (bend your elbow) after having blood taken!. This is a sure fire way to get a bruise and any phlebotomist that tells you to do this should be shot at dawn! ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think its a little of both!. I have same thing one time I feel nothing the next time I do!. One time it leaves bruises the next it don't!. I don't know if the bruising can be explained its different on everyone!. But it hurting I think is how the nurse does it!. Don't watch and try to relax!. Also, if you know which arm get better blood drawl let them know it saves you!. Do you veins roll!? If a nurse tries a few times and nothing ask for another nurse its your right!. I have done it before, ask for another nurse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are many variables from the skill of the phlebotomist, to the equipment used, to the health and/or fragility of the patient's vascular system!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
