Would it be bad if I drank Alcohol while taking this medication?!

Question: Would it be bad if I drank Alcohol while taking this medication!?
I take 25mg of Atenolol daily for my heart rate!. It's the lowest does they make for this drug, and it says on the bottle that it will make you drowsy if you drink while on the medication, but is there anything else I should be worried about!? I don't want to get wasted, I just want to have a couple beers this weekend!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

One or two drinks shouldn't be a problem, but DO check with your pharmacist and/or doctor FIRST!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It'll be ok with just a drink or two!. Even aspirin makers advise no alcohol!. All drug makers do this so that they are not liable if someone gets in trouble who is influenced by alcohol, and blames their actions on the meds!. And claims they weren't warned!. The no alcohol warning is very important for many drugs!. For others, it's just a disclaimer!. The only strong advice I have for avoiding alcohol is when you're on E-bay in the middle of the night!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I did a bunch of research on your question and from what i can see, the side effects of the atenolol would be increased but somehow the alcohol would render the good things atenolol does comepletely useless!. weird huh!? I'll stick with the majority here and say don't mix them!. I wouldn't take the drug on the day you drink (also suggested by a doctor)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Beer/alcohol is a Central Nervous System Depressant & would add to the effect of the atenolol, so it would slow your heart beat even more!.!.!.which might make you pass out because of less blood flowing through your system & less to your brain!.

This would be very dangerous to you!.
If I were you I would avoid it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think the only way to answer this question would be to talk to your doctor, and say exactly what you just said!. Ask if drowsiness is the only side effect!. And if "you were" to have a couple of drinks, how would it effect your heart!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you should never take any medicine with alcohol, ever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

its allways bad to drink booz with medication, will make you rely sick and ill and probably get you more pissed than you should be lolWww@Answer-Health@Com

You are not suppose to take alcohol with any medication!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i'll tell u what:
the same thing did my cousin and now he's in grave!.!.!.:(Www@Answer-Health@Com

mixing alcohol and medication is always a bad ideaWww@Answer-Health@Com

it should say on the packagingWww@Answer-Health@Com

oh for goodness sakes people, loosen up a little! There are those of us who have a glass of wine or a couple of beers every great once in awhile and it doesn't make us alcoholics! Actually wine has been shown to be good for your heart and a few beers are good to flush out your kidneys (in moderation of course)!.
While I agree it is never the optimal thing to do to mix medication and alcohol, most drugs will not hurt you if you only "have a couple beers" over the weekend!. If you were definitely not supposed to drink on a certain prescription, believe me, it would say it on the bottle! If you drink a couple beers or have a glass of wine with your atenolol you may become more drowsy than when you take it alone!. Just as the bottle said!.
An example of what I said above is the medication flagyl!. It is a medicine used to treat bacterial infections!. It tells you in huge letters on the bottle NOT TO DRINK ALCOHOL WHILE TAKING IT AND EVEN FOR 3 DAYS AFTER YOU STOP TAKING THE DRUG!. In this case, don't mix it with alcohol! The reason for this one is that flagyl is in the same group of drugs that they give to alcoholics to keep them from drinking!. If they drink, they will get sick as a dog: nausea, vomiting, and horrible diarrhea!. It certainly makes them not want to drink again! So anywho, if you are absolutely not supposed to have any amount of alcohol at all, the prescription bottle will say, your doctor will tell you, and your pharmacist would too!. Relax, drink you a couple of beers and have fun!Www@Answer-Health@Com
