A temperature up to 99 degrees is considered normal.

A temperature of 100 to 102 is considered a low-grade fever.

A temperature of 103 or above is considered a high-grade fever. Anything over 102 is considered serious.

That's one set of definitions! If you search, you can find many other definitions of "fever."

In the healthcare classes for which I'm a teaching assistant, our students are taught that anything from 98.7 to 100.9 is "an elevated temperature" and that anything from 101 on up is a "fever."

Confused? Your temperature can be a result of just getting out of the shower. It can also be a symptom of whatever's causing your stuffy nose and sore throat, whether it's sinus drainage or something like a strep infection.

Tip: most strep infections often include fevers of 101 or above and have a sudden onset. You may also have red and white patches on the back of your throat.

no, i wouldnt consider it a fever till it is atleast over 100

It's a light fever. Might take a bit of ibuprofen or something, maybe a bit of cold medicine. First wait to be sure it doesn't change in thirty minutes after getting out of the shower.

Well, since you just got out of the shower, I Wouldn't consider this a very accurate temperature. I'd wait until I'm dry and then comfy (not chilly or anything from being wet, including your hair) and then take my temp again. If it's still 99.9 degrees, i'd take some cold meds and go to bed ;)

Check it every 4 hours. Only take Tylenol if it reaches 101.0 or higher. Make sure to follow the dosing questions on the box very carefully. Too much tylenol can kill you.
