Your options are generally oral (under tongue), ear, rectum, or armpit. The goal is to determine your "core" body temperature, and it is believed that under the tongue is most accurate to determine this and easily accessible.

I think it's better then them sticking it up our butt like they do to dogs but I really don't know =P.
There are a lot of blood vessels under your tongue, so the temperature reading is more accurate to your actual internal temp.
