Doctors Surgeries - UK - who is effectively 'in charge'?!

Question: Is it the practice manager?
The senior partners (Doctors)
Who has the final say?

How are complaints about Doctors resolved especially if the Doctor is question is the/one of the senior partners?

Practice managers are employees of the GP's, who are still generally mostly independent contractors. All practices must have a formal complaints policy, which should be available in writing. All complaints about a GP or practice must go to the named complaints officer. This may be the manager, but is sometimes a GP partner. If they are not resolved 'in house' to the satisfaction of the complainant they are then generally passed to the complaints officer of the local Trust.

Complaints about doctors should be directed to the local NHS trust. Complaints about a doctor's competence should be made to the General Medical Council (GMC)

I seriously doubt anybody is in charge ... that's why it's all falling apart.

Our surgery is guarded by 4 angry fierce rottweilers, you just can't get past them at times................they're called receptionists.

There is a set complaints procedure.. You should in the first instance contact the ptactice manager in writing highlighting you area of complaint.

I know it can be very difficult to do since you have to see a doctor and naturally will be concerned about rocking the boat.

Still if you have reason to complain let them know. If they don't deal with it properly then take your complaint to the next level that being the primary care trust.

If it is GP competence you question then contact the GMC they are on a website and take you through the way to complain to them.

If you feel uneasy at the practice then all you have to do is contact any other practice and ask if they can take you onto their books... If they have speace then they will set you up with a pre transfer interview regarding general health checks etc.. then they will arranged transfer of your medical notes... you do not need to tell your current GP that you want to change..
