Anti-depressants & weight gain?!

Question: I was put on a cocktail of Wellbutrin, Celexa, and as-needed use Ativan last week for severe anxiety. I am in the middle of a massive weight loss effort (I've lost 44 pounds so far and have plenty to go), and I'm concerned that with one possible side effect of these drugs being weight gain that it will stop me in my tracks. I've been trucking along at about a loss of 2.5 pounds a week, but this week, I've seen a .5lb GAIN even though I don't eat much and exercise for 40 minutes 6 days a week.

I know plenty of people have gained weight on anti-depressants, but has anyone gained while they were actively trying to lose? It doesn't make sense to me that with all I'm doing I could possibly gain anything- I should be losing like crazy!! (I'm 33 by the way- have a slooooooooow metabolism)

You could have reached a plateau.

Antidepressants cause increased appetite which leads to weight gain. Speak to your MD about your concerns.

Congratulations on your weight loss!!
Don't give up.

Do you use green tea EXTRACT every day? Omega 3 essential fatty acids 3000mg/day? They both help with weight loss.

There are a lot of anti-depression meds that make you crave eating. Anything. I think it was the Celexa for me -- try others.

Good luck! You will get there.

Start with a work out first thing in AM to raise your metabolism naturally.
