You'll have to take out piercings for your surgery, which means the piercing will most definitely grow over.
I had an operation around my ribcage area a couple of months ago and I was shocked when they told me I had to take out ALL my cartilage piercings (even though they're nowhere near my rib cage), along with my other piercings.
It's for hygiene reasons.
My advice is to wait till after you have your surgery to get the piercing.
It could be a special treat for making it through it all.
:)
Anyway, good luck.
kinda depends on where the piercing is, and what kind of surgery
you might want to wait untill after your surgeries for your piercings to help lower the risk of infections
You're much better off to wait until after your surgeries AND you have recovered completely.
Your body spends energy and resources to recover from both piercings and surgery. Asking your body to heal from a new piercing AND two surgeries in a short time is going to put a lot of strain on it. Surgery is a big stress for your body and that will be it's main focus of recovery. This may mean a longer healing time for your piercing and a higher risk of infection.
Durring surgery you will also either need to remove your jewelry or wear plastic jewelry. Removing a new piercing would mean that it is incredibly likely to close. If the piercing is not in an area that will be affected by the surgery you may be able to wear plastic (Bioplast or PTFE) jewelry. Some surgeries require the use of equipment that may react with metal jewelry and cause burns, thus any metal has to come out. Check with your surgeon on their requirements.
It will be much easier for you if you are pierced after you've recovered from surgery. Give your body time to be ready to focus on healing your piercing so you can get the best results.
