What jump rope length should I buy: 7.5 feet or 8.5 feet? Conflicting website re!
Question: I am 5'2". Websites say that someone 4'10" to 5'5" should get a rope between 7 and 8 feet, so a 7.5 foot rope seems right. But they also say that to find the ideal jump rope length, you should stand on the rope and bring both ends up to your armpits. When I stand on my measuring tape and pull both ends up to my armpits, it comes close to 8.5 feet. Measuring directly from my armpit to the ground is 4 feet, so it makes sense that if I'm measuring to the ground on both sides and standing on it with both feet, it would be a bit longer than 8 feet. However, this conflicts with the recommendations. Am I misunderstanding the proper way to measure and therefore should go for a 7.5 foot rope?
If I buy a 7.5 foot rope, is it the actual rope that is 7.5 feet, or is the rope plus the handles 7.5 feet? If it is just the rope itself, then it is possible that even though I am measuring even though I am measuring 8.5 feet, I still should buy a 7.5 foot rope to take into account the handle lengths.

go to toys r us or walmart and test out one of theirs. ask what length it is and go from there! anyways, i'm 5' 3" & would go with the 8.5 because then I have more rope to do criss cross and all those fancy things.
The way to measure the rope is to put the rope under your feet and if the handles reach to your arm pits when you are standing up straight then the rope is long enough for you! Skip to it!
