Why do i get weezy after i run?!

Question: I just started to run to get healthy like 2 weeks ago, the first 3 days i just figured it was because my lazy body wasn't used to running. Till this day i still wheez like crazy after i run. I just got back from a morning jogg 20 minutes ago and i'm wheezin' really bad. When i was like 10(I'm 17 now) i had a really rough asthma attack after baseball practice and had to go to the hospital. They said i have a minor case of asthma, so minor that i won't need an inhaler. Before 2 weeks ago i was fine when i ran or did anything that takes my breath away. I smoke cigs on occasion and i smoke hemp almost everyday. But my friends that smoke cigs EVERYday don't wheez like me. Does my Asthma have anything to do with this? Or what can it be. I really want to end this wheezing so i can increase my stamina when i jogg. I will be quiting weed in a month or two when im done with highschool. It's just a fab i'm going threw and i'll be over it. Please don't report this for saying weed- this is serious!

Well first, lets attack the asthma: you said you had a mild case when you were younger.
Asthma has a tendency to "leave" and come back at different times in your life. Sometimes you can outgrow it, or sometimes it can come down after a certain age.
A common symptom of asthma is wheezing after either activity, exposure to an allergen, or even things like stress and heavy laughter.
What happens is the small tubes that transport the air throughout the lungs becomes irritated, then swollen. When you breathe and air is inhaled and exhaled through these semi-closed tubes a "whistling" noise occurs which we hear as wheezing. This also explains the difficulty and chest-heaving you experience in trying to inhale as opposed to breathing with fully opened tubes. Your friends don't have asthma so even after smoke they may not wheeze.
Now of course, --as you know--smoking doesn't lend the lungs any helping hands. Asthma or not, weed / tobacco aren't doing the lungs any favors, and it only worsens your condition.
Running and exercising is great for your bod, but exercise is only gonna be more difficult, or even futile for building stamina, as you are already starting to experience. It'll be like running through an obstacle course but choosing only the uphill parts.
I hope I didn't sound preachy but I've had asthma since I was 3 yrs old, my mom had it, her mom had it, we are all non smokers.
I can't imagine if we did.

Asthma can be exacerbated by smoking and by exercise. It will be a combination of all of these, get to your doctor or asthma nurse for medication, and give up the smokes.

Smoking absolutely is BAD for your asthma. You don't have a minor case of asthma, you HAVE asthma. When you smoke, I doubt that it has something with you getting asthma because I guess it just has something to do with your body being strong or something. Only few of my relatives smoke but they don't have asthma. And they're quite old. Stop smoking, or you'll have even more asthma attacks and you'll die, because you don't have your inhaler.

Since you have had issues with asthma in the past, you are going to be more sensitive to smoking than others will be. The problems you are having sound asthma related. Quit the smoking of any kind - it's especially bad for people with asthma - even if it's mild asthma and go gradual in increasing your workout routine. And a trip to your doctor to find out the current status of your asthma is a good idea.

asthma and smoking go hand in hand and working out with running is definately going to be problematic. I have asthma, don't smoke but started back up running and I'm hindered with running. Funny thing is this asthma just developed this year and I used to run for miles when I was younger with no problems.

My suggestion is, if you want to continue running, you need to go into the docs and tell them you need an inhaler b/c you get asthma attacks during exercise. You may require taking it mid-run but at least it won't be so bad for you and yes, do cut out the smoking, nothing worse for your body!

maybe you could have asthema

smoking has everything to do with your wheezing..u may have turned a mild case of asthma into a serious case....go to the doctor; they can do tests but first and foremost stop smoking. smoking + exercise = oxymoron...

I have asthma, and it used to be really bad, it has worn off now though. I dont use an inhaler, and if i ran for 20 minutes, i would feel like being sick. Also, smoking ANYTHING is very bad for your lungs, especially if youve ever had anything to do with asthma

You have asthma, and your smoking and being overweight is certainly not helping. My husband has asthma and ignored it for years, and now he's on 3 different daily medications. Talk to your doctor, and stop smoking now-why wait till after you (hopefully) graduate? What's going to be so different then?

quit smoking, run often , eat right... you should be fine...

I'm not going to lecture you about your smoking, but if you have asthma, it's not the most brilliant idea to smoke, even if you dont do it as often as your mates.
You may also be pushing yourself alot, try power walkin before you jog, then after a while of jogging start running, and then you can do the occassional sprint, your body just needs to get used to it being pushed out of it's comfort zone.
