What Is The Best Way To Cope When Having A Panic Attack?!

Question: Thanks In Advance

Answers: Thanks In Advance

When you have a panic attack, usually over a stressful situation you end up hyperventilating. Hyperventilation is when you breath quick shallow breaths which can lead to symptoms of dizziness , chest pain, sweating and feeling generally unwell. When you are stressed your bodies sympathetic nervous system kicks in which is why you get a raise in heart rate, sweating etc. The dizziness and faintness is caused because you are expelling high levels of CO2 so there is less in your blood. This leads to vasoconstriction of blood vessels (they get smaller). The smaller the blood vessels then the less blood can be transported to areas such as the brain. Also the blood transported is low in oxygen as inefficient ventilation is taking place, meaning that the flow of blood to the brain is reduced and the oxygen content of the blood is reduced.
The simplest solution i can give is to either concentrate on your breathing and try and slow it down. It might be helpful to lie down as well, as you will be less likely to faint.
The best solution would be to breath into a paper bag. This would mean re-inhaling your expelled air, so over a minute you would increase the CO2 in your blood and your symptoms will ease and disappear.
However the long term solution would be to sort out what is causing the panic attacks.
Good luck.

Chill

just take long deep breaths

CBT or distraction techniques work well, a simple but effective way is to breathe into a paper bag, it reduces the O2 levels in the blood stream.

Always remember to breathe- in nose out mouth slowly - and change your thoughts to something you like - Try to remember not to run away from your fears -
