Phlegm help? (gross question)?!
Question: I have a bunch of crud that's trying to move in my chest. I try to hack it up and out but I can't seem to get it far enough up my throat so I can hack it out. I'd tried really hard to hack it up but it won't get to the point that I can spit it out. Do you know of any other techniques to help me?

drink water and take mucinex to loosen the phlegm & make it easier to cough out. you don't really need cough drops which are, in general, cough suppressants... you just need to get the phlegm out.
mucinex
Listerine Gargle the gold liquid one. part water, part tspn of Listerin Gargle and spit.
Hot steamy vaporizer, ben gay cream/gel on the chest and backside. REST!
Guaifenesin is an over-the-counter med that will loosen that up. It thins mucus. There are many different brands. Just get the single ingredient, not a multi, unless you have other symptoms. Check with the pharmacist if you have any questions.
Also, drink water! A nice herbal tea is good, as well. Try something citrusy -- lemon, maybe.
You need to put moisture in the air to help break up phlegm. A humidifier will help. Or you can sit in a steamy bathroom. Also try a decongestant and drink lots of water. It's a good thing to hack it up and spit it out, so your body can clear itself of infection. (plus it makes you feel more comfortable).
