How to Get to Sleep?!

Question: What do I need to do to get to sleep? I don't really wanna take any medication if I can help it, but lately I have been just laying in bed, feeling tired, but not being able to fall asleep for hours. Any I dea on what I could do? Another thing, almost every day i feel really tired in the afternoon, no matter what time I wake up, and I never take a nap so that hopefully i will be able to fall asleep that night. But when it comes down to finally laying in bed, I just toss and turn and can't fall asleep.

natural is hot green tea before bed, take some meletonin-its natural and helps you sleep, about$4 at walmart, and also keep your heat down past 70. people sleep better when its cooler. you could put on some slow nature music, like trees blowing, creeks dripping, etc.... also get some nice soft sheets, i love the $20 t shirt sheets from target, sooooooo nice!!i still am awake at 2am, so as you can tell, i have insomnia

Jack Daniels.

Eat a banana. Trust me it works.

Don't move while your'e in bed, just lay down and close your eyes.

Mary Jane

with a pillow

Drink some tea (nighty night by Traditional Medical Tea) or a glass of hot milk will do.

I have the same problem, but I don't take medication. Try taking a shower before going to bed. That helps me

that happens to me too, especially if my sleeping schedule gets all messed up, so the best thing to do is to have your breakfast in the morning and try to stay awake during the day and once u lay down at 9 or 10 youll fall asleep, and try waking up at 7 or 8 a.m and it will make u feel better.

When I am desperate, I slowly repeat in my mind "I am very tired, I am very sleepy" over and over...
Doesn't always work, 75% success rate in my usage.

happens to me all the f'ing time...

you need to do some ting to relax your brain and unwind before you sleep...

try reading (because reading is boring and will put you to sleep, especially try reading any math or chemistry textbook)

or just try some light muscle stretching and breathing to wind down, that works for me...
or i hit the sauce...that works well too!

or masturbate...that is a guaranteed sleep inducer...and fun too!!!

If you watch tv in bed stop. If not do you exercise during the day if not start.

I had insomnia, and it was really affecting me during the day- I couldn't function properly. This is what I used to help me sleep:

It's a natural remedy that you spray under your tongue half an hour before bed, then again right before sleep. I fell asleep within half an hour of my second dose. And if you wake up during the night you can spray it again to get back to sleep.
Other things that may help are having a warm bath with a few drops of lavender essential oil in it, putting a few drops of lavendar oil on your pillow, counting backwards from 1000 to numb your mind.

I have the same problem. In order to fall asleep I count. I count to 100. If I don't sleep, I start counting again.

If this does not work, I use the technique of self hypnosis, it gets me into a very relaxed state.

usually the first 5 steps listed in this web page and counting to 100 is enough to fall asleep.

good luck! and sweet dreams :)

Try to have a nice camomile tea and go for a boring book, you will concentrate in other matters rather than sleep. Sometimes you want to sleep so bad that it will have the opposite effect.
or count sheep's
nite nite

instead of countiing sheep build your dream home in your mind then sleep in the room that you like the best.

Hi,
well, avoid caffeine and sugar, at any part of the day until you isolate the cause of your sleeplessness.
try reading in bed, but if you don't fall asleep in 20-25 min, get up and do something until you think you may be able to fall asleep and try again.
avoid doing other things in bed or your bedroom that aren't related to sleep - if possible.
you can actually try a sweet snack, like a couple of cookies, a bit before bed to see if the sugar crash may help you fall asleep.
i have had sleeping problems for years, never being able to fall asleep. i came to a realization one day about an abandonment issue from very young childhood (when i was 3 or so) that didn't seem particularly traumatic or anything, but from that night on i have been able to sleep except in times of heavy stress.
try exercise a couple hours before bed, giving your body time to wind down before trying to lay down and sleep.
be aware of exactly what foods and beverages contain sugar and caffeine - you may be ingesting a lot more than you realize, and at inopportune times.
try relaxing exercises while lying in bed, flex and release, consciously working from your toes to your head, relaxing each part as you go. it takes practice, but it may help.
try listening to classical music or something relaxing while you lay down to go to sleep.
be convinced that you will fall asleep.
keep the tv on.
but, if there are no organic reasons for your sleep problems you may need to look for psychological reasons behind your sleep issue. how long has this been going on? can you think of any situation, no matter how subtle that could have been a trigger for your problem with falling asleep? think back to the origins of this, and just accept that anything might explain it, you never know - you might just hit the nail on the head and solve your problem.
that's all i got
Good Luck

ok, let me help- what you need to do is get your body physically tired- i.e do push ups, jogging- become out of breath so that you become tired. Then you need to get your brain tired- i.e read a book or something. And that would make your eyes tired. but wait for it, make your self a hot drink-caffene free-obviously-like a warm class of milk, hot chocolate etc. then you will get to sleep. hope this helps.
