What are the long term health effects of bulimia?!
Question: I have been bulimic since my junior year in college (1991). I go to a psychiatrist, counseling, and I am on meds! Nothing seems to help. Am I going to keep doing this til I am old and gray?

There is a wide range of long term health effects - not the least of which can be cardiac damage which can seriously shorten life expectancy. Other than that, premature skin aging and musculoskeletal deterioration; gastrointestinal damage (especially if you are vomiting) and kidney damage. One thing may then lead to another and another and another. It is hard to imagine how bad it can be when you are so young, but you will definitely regret it when you get into that zone of system breakdown.
Again, no one can tell you how long you will do this on YA. It is completely up to you. If you are getting psychological help and medical help, that's great; but if you are fooling your health providers into thinking you want help but really don't, you are spinning your wheels.
