I would say the media and peer pressure are the culprits. Plus, over the years children have been eating more fats and in females, increased fat means increased Estrogen levels which causes earlier sexual maturation.
I feel if a child is weak-minded enough to have sex simply because his or her friends are doing the same, or can not control his or her sex drive, then they should be watched 24/7 by their parents. In today's society, early pregnancy forshadows hardship later on in life.

If this is true, and I hope not, I don't think there is one single cause. It could be peer pressure,TV, the movies, their environment. Kids today are under a lot of pressure and influence. Look at the TV commercials and music videos. They are having sex thrown at them everywhere the turn.
