root canal or extraction? which one hurts lesss?!

Question: Root canal or extraction? which one hurts lesss?
Im 15 years old and my back molar seems to have a really bad cavity or something. Im going to the dentist tomorrow and am very nervous. I have a really low tolerance for pain and have always been scared of dentists. Anyways..the back molar, its the last tooth on my lower left side(my wisdom teeth still haven't come in yet) and it has a really huge deep hole in it. It causes severe pain. the pain usually comes in really sharply, and it makes the whole left side of my mouth hurt, like all my teeth on the left side become sore and start to hurt really badly. Im not really sure how deep the hole is but i think it may be down to the gum. Dentists have always commented how healthy my teeth are and ive never had a cavity or any kind of dental problems in my life, so im really scared. The other day the pain was so bad, i was about to go to the emergency room, but instead we got in touch with the emergency on call dentist, all the dentists in my area were closed that day. The On call dentist prescribed me to antibiotics right away(for an infection i think) and he said that id probably need a root canal or extraction. which one would be better and cause less pain. I am really bad with needles, pain, blood and everything, dentist really scare me. Im going to a sedation dentist that should help me..hopefully! and i might have to use general anaesthesia. I also have sever crowding and my orthodontist said that they would probably have to do some extractions done. what should i do? which one will cause less pain?

hmm i can only answer this based on my personal experience, not on medical grounds. I was 18 years old when I had a similar problem. I was a student and didn't have money and a bit scared of dentist. I resorted to extraction.. which actually bite me on my behind after a few years later. Because when you extract a tooth - a space is created which means over a period of time your teeth could move and as a result you might end up with a gap on your two front teeth. Not good, ended up paying for a new tooth to be placed ( well a fake one) so it holds my teeth in place.

As for you, well you still have wisdom teeth coming out so if they can fill the gaps then perhaps that might be ok for you to go for extraction. This is what I think about first and I wish someone told me this before.

- extraction- short term. One time pain , gone. But possible consequence later, as much as possible dentists will try to save a tooth - its like a saving a life for them hehe

- root canal - expensive, multiple pain - don't think they can do it in one visit you see. And of course more expensive but you save your tooth.

- Get a x-ray so you can see where your wisdom teeth are coming from and make a decision on that and seek dentists opinion. And how many do you have? I had four

But if you ask me whilst rooth canal may endure more pain BUT more teeth is better than less, if you have too much you can remove it later, rather than building an artificial one so.. there

but the best is - Brush your teeth every after meal, floss, mouth wash. Avoid too many sweets and acidic stuff. Because without cavity, u wouldnt even be in this situation. Prevention is the best !!!

personal experience - i have my teeth to prove it !
