Does it hurt?
Putting the braces on does not hurt at all, but your mouth will feel weird for having it wide open for a looong time >___>

Braces develop sores in the mouth after about a week your braces were put on. That is because your mouth is not yet use to have your cheeks and gums rubbing against the brackets of your braces. Your mouth will soon get tough and you wont get sores in those areas a lot. It also hurts when they tighten the wires of braces, but that's temporary. Also, when they tighten the wires take some aspirin or tylenol or advil or medicine that you would take for a headache when it starts hurting.

How do they put them on?
Well, first they use a contraption in your mouth to hold your mouth wide open while they are putting your braces on, after that they put two rolls of cotton between your lower and bottom teeth, its to soak up the saliva of your mouth and to hold it.
They then clean and dry the individual tooth and hose it down again lol they then add a glue/paste substance for the bracket, they put the glue/paste like substance to the back of a bracket and stick it to your tooth and scrape the glue that pressed out from the bracket. they then get a blue light that is suppose to heat the glue onto your teeth so the bracket can stick better. After they do this to each tooth, they will put the wire through. Then they will put the elastics onto the brackets. Then your done :$ (braced teeth)

How long does it take to put them on?
It takes them at least and 1 1/2 to 2 hours to put your braces on. Unless you have perfectly straight teeth but need it anyway then it would take 45 minutes to and hour.

Hope i helped!

It takes a while for them to get the braces on, because they have to be very careful about positioning the brackets. So basically they open your mouth very wide, and use plastic holders to keep your lips from collapsing. They glue on the little metal bracets onto each teeth (and that's why it takes so much time, bc there's a lot of concentration going on). And then from there they add your wire on (or wires, depending on your teeth). And finally, they secure the wires in with the elastics (which are the colors you see when people who have braces smile-- if they ask for colored ones).

It didn't hurt for me when I first got them (like on the day of), but it does hurt the first week, like crazy. But take some tylenol and you'll be fine. And then everytime the wires are tightened they'll hurt again.

I would say it takes about an hour or more to put them on, depending on the orthodontist.
But hey, trust me, I got them off a year ago, and i'm much more confident with my smile :)

Good luck!
