Question about a healing socket?!
Question: Question about a healing socket?
Answers:
I’m a dentist.
Since you had twenty-two teeth extracted at once, chances are you had some severe periodontal disease.
Most likely, what happened is that the molar to which you are referring had lost so much bone around it that the furcation (i.e. the place where the two roots of the tooth meet) became exposed above the gingiva, thus allowing the gingiva to heal under it. Hence, at the time the tooth was pulled, you probably had some gum tissue between the roots to begin with.
Even if this isn’t the case, an extraction site that is healing is a good indication that there’s nothing to worry about.
Hello, On occasion when teeth are extracted one of two things can cause you to see what you describe..It could be that the dentist inadvertently left a piece of tooth in the socket, or it may be your actually seeing gum bone...If the spot you see feels hard to the touch it's probably one of those issues...If it's soft it probably just part of the healing system...It it's hard you need to get back to the dentist ASAP. Good luck and I wish you well.....By the way, did the dentist tell you it would take between 5 and 6 months for your gums to heal and they would change shape and size? If you want additional info about that write me at my AOL address and I send you the information....All free, I have nothing to sell.
