Is it possible to reverse my extraction orthodontics?!
Question: Is it possible to reverse my extraction orthodontics?
Answers:
Yes, it is possible to reverse the effects of bicuspid extraction treatment and I know because I have done it. Although growth has stopped by age 26, it is very possible and routinely done in patients as old as 50. I have used expansion effectively in a 55 year old female. Properly done, expansion does not just tip teeth; the jaw actually expands and becomes wider. The main disadvantage of doing expansion in adults is that it is not stable and night time wear of a retainer will be required forever. Reversing bicuspid extractions will involve reopening the extraction spaces where the now missing teeth were. Appliances like a maxillary sagittal and a Reverse Face Mask will advance the premaxilla to allow the spaces to be reopened. Think of a Reverse Face Mask as something that works like a headgear that works in reverse to the way it is usually used in bicuspid extraction treatment. You cannot reverse the extractions. You can only change the shape of the jaw a small amount with tooth movement. If you want gross change, you must take a surgical approach
