When they fill your cavities do they stick the needle under your gumline?!
Question:
When they fill your cavities do they stick the needle under your gumline?
also is the shot they use to numb your gums painful and are there other anesthetic options
Answers:
yes, the shots are under/in the gums. You'll likely have a topic gel placed first which will help to numb the are and make the shot easier. Really, it's just like a bee sting, then before you know it you're numb and don't feel a thing. Depending on what type of cavitiy you have there are "needle free" options, using "air abrassion" but it's not suitable for all fillings. Personally, I'd rather have a shot and know that I'm not going to feel anything as opposed to hoping that the air abrassion is truly painfree. The shots are really no big deal. If you had to get a shot at the doctor or have blood taken, you'd just have to suck it up and do it. The same holds true with a dental shot. Depending on how your dentist does things, if you're a very nervous patient maybe you can use nitrioux oxide to help you relax throughout the entire procedure? I'm an odd one because I can't stand nitrous, but most patients do. Anyway, you'll be fine and it's important to fill cavities before they grow ( because they will ) and turn into bigger, more expensive problems like a root canal and a crown. :)
