Can you eat gum with braces as long as they're sugerless?!

Question:

Can you eat gum with braces as long as they're sugerless?

people told me you can.. but my ortho is just afraid its sticky and my stick to my braces. why is it as long as its sugarless.. how does the sugar afeect braces?

Answers:

The fact that it's sticky might cause bits of the gum to stick to under your braces and you might not even notice, and that to some extent will promote cavities even if it is sugarless. Sugar doesn't affect braces directly, but eating sugary stuff with braces on increases your chance of getting cavities when the food gets stuck between or under your braces, and when you fail to brush it off.
