Question regarding flex spending?!

Question: I work for a dentist and recently we have had an influx of patients wanting to use a flex spending credit card to pay for their dental treatment. Our office accepts Visa and Mastercard and these cards always have that logo, therefore, we accept them as payment. When we close our credit card batch at the end of the day our report shows the flex spending dollar amount was deposited into the doctors bank account.

Today, the same patient showed up at our office with a check from their flex spending for the same amount that we charged them on the date of their treatment. Now this is where it is getting confusing. If the doctor is being paid by credit card the day the patient is being treated, and the money in the flex spending account is deposited from the patients gross pay and the patient does not pay a monthly credit card bill, then why is the patient receiving a check from their flex spending account?

Please only answer this question if you have any experience with this.

Could be just the bank's oversight.
