Question:
I got a filling a few weeks ago, and then today 1/3 of that tooth broke off!?
What can be done to salvage this tooth, and is it possible it is the dentist's fault? Maybe he didn't do a good job with the filling? I've never broken a tooth before and I'm 27! All I was doing was eating tortilla chips and a huge chunk came off! If they're liable would they fix it for free?

Was it a large filling? The dentist will usually cover the re-treat, it depends on his/her office policy. But since it was on;y a few weeks ago, I'd think you'd be okay for non having to pay.
The problem is that you were eating a flippin' tortilla chip!! It sounds sily, but I've had patients who have broken teeth/fillings on ribs, cashews, lollipops, etc. If they told you it was a large filling, or one that located in a particular spot and warned you about the possibility of tooth fracture, then the cost would be on you.
You didn't mention that any particular post-op was given, so call your dentist and schedule an appointment. You don't want it to progress to more than a filling!
