Getting your teeth sealed at the dentist?!
Question:
Getting your teeth sealed at the dentist?
is it good to do..
im 16 yrs old
can i have some information on what it does too?
Answers:
What do sealants do: They seal up the deep pits and fissures on the biting surface of your tooth so nothing dirty can get caught in them to prevent cavities from developing there.
Sealants are quite effective-- They can decrease the incidence of cavities by up to 30% provided you have good oral hygiene habits.
How it is placed: A dentist will apply a bit of etching solution to rough up the enamel so the sealant has something to grip onto. The tooth is then dried, and the liquid sealant flowed into the grooved from a syringe. A light is used to zap the sealant and cause it to harden on the tooth surface. Done.
Insurance will usually cover sealants for kids under 14.. Since you are 16 you will have to pay out of pocket for those. I think they are worth it though if you got deep grooves and pits on your teeth.
Hope this helps!
