Answers: THEY MAKE A COMFORTABLE LIVING.

About $166,000 per annum.

a lot

Enough to buy a lot of "crowns".

Well just like any profession, being an orthodontist is a business. The more experience and clients you have the higher your salary could be.

If you are fresh out of school and working under another orthodontist, the average salary is said to be the upper 5 figures. Of course with years behind you, a pay raise can be expected to get you in the 6 figures in no time.

We have found the most financially successful orthodontist is the ones that start their own practice. Some even go as far to have a practice in every county close to their home, sometimes driving over 100 miles to a separate office just to maintain a larger client base.

In these instances an orthodontist can have hundreds of patients. It is in the best interest of the orthodontist to hire technicians that are very well versed and experienced in orthodontics, this way the Orthodontist acts as the overseer. He/she will only be needed to review each client and handle the complicated cases.

In the cases where the orthodontist has several practices, he/she can net at least $200,000 a year for themselves. Of course fine tuning the business will yield more such as building efficiencies, tax shelters, etc.

In any case the pleasure an orthodontist gets out of seeing the results of their work in a clients smile is priceless. Most truly live for the moment the braces come off and their client is smiling ear to ear.

While the average orthodontist salary varies by state and amount of clients, you can be sure it is a highly respected and well paid profession that will always have a need in tomorrow
