What is a full mouth debridement?!
Question:
What is a full mouth debridement?
Answers:
A full mouth debridement (also known as a "gross scaling" or "gross debridement") is basically the first of two "cleanings" that are done when there is excessive build-up on the teeth. This first debridement is when most of the "tartar" or calculus is removed from the teeth. This allows for the gum tissues to begin healing and the inflammation to go down.
After about 2-3 weeks of healing time, you are seen for the second "cleaning". The tissues will be much less tender and have shrunk down enough so that any of the remaining tartar / calculus will be visible and can be removed.
