Unable to open mouth wide after recent surgery is there some way to get it back !

Question:

Unable to open mouth wide after recent surgery is there some way to get it back to normal?

Answers:

If it was just surgery on the soft tissues or gums in your mouth, you should resume normal use within a week or two. If surgery was done to remove abscess from the jaw bone, close to the maxillary joint, it could take some time longer.
If bone scar tissue is obstructing jaw flexing and opening of your mouth, causing trismus, you may need further surgery. Some swelling after surgery can and dose restrict jaw usage but should return to normal after the swelling goes down.
Trismus (stiffness) of the muscles may cause difficulty in opening your mouth for a period of days. Anti-inflammatory medications and moist heat compresses to the jaw(s) can minimize this condition.
You may experience aching of your other teeth. This discomfort is caused by referred pain and is a temporary condition.
It is not unusual to develop bruising in the area of an extraction.
There may be a slight elevation of temperature for 24 - 48 hours. If the fever persists, please contact our office.
Sutures used during surgery usually dissolve in 7 - 10 days.
Give it a few weeks, if you don't see or feel any improvement call your doctor.
