no, they bleach it. but that does weaken the enamel. They are okay to use for a short period of time, but not too often. You don't want your teeth looking see-through ;-)

Don't do it...because you may go to the extreme...but if you really want to try on one..then find the brand that has been around for a long time, and make sure YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON IT..
