Sounds like a sinus problem, you may have a sinus infection.
so it just hurts on the top huh. now im not a doctor or a dentist here but i like to reasearch tooth problems because i want to become a dental hygenist. but if its just the upper teeth it could be many of things and it might not even be your teeth thats the problem.

Pain around the teeth and the jaws can be symptoms of diseases of the heart (angina, heart attack), ears (such as inner or external ear infections), and sinuses (air passages of the cheek bones) such as sinusitis (infection of the sinus cavities). For example, the pain of angina (a heart condition marked by paroxysms of chest pain due to reduced oxygen to the heart) is usually located in the chest or the arm. However, in some patients with angina, a toothache or jaw pain are the only symptoms of their heart problem. Infections and diseases of the ears and sinuses can also cause pain around the teeth and jaws. Therefore, evaluations by both dentists and doctors are sometimes necessary to diagnose medical illnesses causing a "toothache."
Keep in mind, while rare, some chronic toothache like pains are caused by neuralgias and other nerve ailments. im not trying to scare you or anything it could be a number of things but just to be on the safe side i would go to your doctor and just tell him your jaw pain, its better to be safe than sorry.
You may have a sinus problem.....
