Throbbing ache 5 days after fillings?!

Question: I got 2 filling in my back molars on my left side on monday and ever since the Novacaine (Had to give me 3 shots) wore off I have been dealing with a throbbing ache and pain in those teeth when I bite down. I have another appointment on Monday for the other 2 molars on my right side and plan to have the doc look at my teeth again but Im scared as hell now. Is it normal for it to still be hurting? If not what will they do? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your bite may be off. When you have fillings your jaw is open for a long time and your numb this can contort your bite and sometimes you need to get it adjusted after a few days. When your hitting a tooth or teeth before the others no matter how minimal its kinda like hitting your elbow on a table if you do it a few times its OK but keep doing it and it gets very sore and sensitive to anything touching it.Even after its fixed it may take a few days to feel completely better. But it should improve steadily..Just biting sounds like its a little off.Call your dentist before your appointment to let them know you may want to wait on the other side until this one feels better.Good Luck!!

No it shouldnt be hurting and since you have the appointment monday not much you can do right now. Make sure you let the dr know

It's not normal to still be hurting this late after your fillings. Your tooth may be abscessed.Be sure to keep your appointment on Monday. Keep track of your symptoms...like if heat or cold affects your filling...any fever etc.

It's not normal...The same thing happened to me...the pain was awful..I went back and he said he couldn't see anything wrong..and gave me some pain pills and said it should quit hurting, but it didn't! I had to go back again and come to find out..the filling was too far down...and he had to take it out and do it over again!! it was very painful! i wish you luck!!

Could be that the filling isn't fitting right. Your dentist may see if you can bite together normally. If they don't, he may try to trim off some of the filling first. If your teeth are banging together, the nerves may be becoming irritated. But there is, of course, a down side. The fillings may have been deep enough and close enough to the nerve to cause your tooth to begin to abscess. Take a couple Advil and see if that alleviates the pain. If it doesn't, do call your dentist's office. There should be someone on call to help you.

There's something going on teeth might be a little sensitive following fillings etc. but that kind of pain is not normal. How competent is the dentist?? Have you been to him before with no problems? Tooth aches are the worst...I'd call his ';service' tomorrow and have him call you back....something's going on . good luck.. ?? p.s don't be afraid of what they will do...anything they do will be a huge relief from the pain you are experiencing.

Well - what I'm about to tell you may scare you - but if it's only been 5 days you can probably still fix it. It is possible for your bite to be off - but it is also possible for you to have a cracked tooth - which both cause the same problems. However, I just had my lower left molar filled and it was throbbing something horrible a couple weeks after the filling - I called my dentist and he said it was probably just "sensitive". However it had been a month and I came back in for a couple more fillings and it still hurt - and the pain was getting worse. He did an X-Ray and I had a crack and he filled it - but the pain STILL did not go away - I had another dentist adjust the bite and the pain STILL did not go away - my regular dentist said I needed a root canal - but I couldn't afford it so I went to the other dentist to have it pulled - come to find out my tooth had gotten infected inside and the pulp was dying. (which is why he wanted to give me a root canal) but I also found out that if your dentist did a filling and left decay in the tooth under the filling it can cause the pulp to die - and that's what happened - my dentist left some of the decay and it got infected - so my advice - either go back to your current dentist and have them re x-ray and see if they missed some bacteria - and if they say everything's fine - then get a second opinion before you have to have it pulled - like I had.
