I had one filling on NHS cost £43.60 How much private?!
Question:
I had one filling on NHS cost £43.60 How much private?
I luckily found an NHS dentist but recently had a filling., just the one , took about 15 minutes. How is the price of £43.60 justified? We do have an emergency dental clinic here which charges £15.20 if it is an extraction or filling. How can the NHS charge that amount and what would it have cost privately?
Answers:
They've changed it fairly recently so that there are three different bands of payment - the first one is around £15 and includes things like cleanings, check-ups and routine x-rays. If you need any fillings, you go into the second band which is £43 - it doesn't matter whether you need 1 filling or 5 fillings, you'll still pay the same. And then the third price bracket is about £125 and that's if you need things like root canals, crowns, bridges etc.
If you'd gone private, the initial consultation and check-up with x-rays would have cost you around £45 minimum. Then for the filling, depending on the size, you'd be looking at between about £75 and £150.
