What's the big deal with wisdom teeth, and why do people say it hurts so bad !

Question: I have to get all of mine cut out, plus an extra one in the back...will this just bring more pain, and will it be worse to get them all out at once?

I have been through a lot of painful experiences, but having to have a wisdom tooth taken out is like the WORST pain in the world (even WORSE THAN LABOR PAINS). Once they are taken out, you have to be really careful not to develop what they call "dry sockets", because that is even worse than the hurting wisdom teeth. They will put you to sleep, so the actual process will not hurt. Make sure to take a pain pill as soon as you can because after having the teeth taken out, it's gonna hurt like crap for the next few days. If you actually are in pain before you take the pain medication, it will be hard to get relief. A heating pad will help after the surgery. Don't make any big plans, though, because this will have you out of comission for a few days. Bettter to get them all done at once. Best of luck to you.

Its meant to be painful, those teeth have really big roots, so they're really deep in.

i got all mine out at once. it wasn't a big deal. they used general anesthesia. and i got vicodin, so it really wasn't painful at all.

Definately better to just get them all pulled at once, I've had all mine pulled you don't even feel it. All your wisdom teeth do anyways is mess up all your other teeth, they grown in your mouth thats already too small and eventually cause all of your teeth to grow out of place, so if you don't get them pulled be prepared to eventually wear braces and have lots of cavities.

i got mine out all at once, and that's how i would recomend. they will knock you out and give you pain meds for after, so yeah, it hurts. but not unbearably so. and everyone i know who has had their's grow in has described it as much more painful than getting them pulled. and they can make your teeth move and become crooked as they move in. go for it! you'll be glad you did!!

I am nearly fifty years old and still have mine. I know of people who have had them all removed at once-that way they only go through the pain once. Everyone is different-maybe you won't suffer as much pain. Don't let anyone scare you.

I had all 4 of mine pulled. It hurt like hell, I only had the general anesthesia. I think it would have been less painful if I had been totally knocked out. It didn't hurt to badly afterwords but I stayed on the Perkaset that they gave me. As soon as it would begin to where off I'd take more.

Are they going to put you to sleep while they do it? It's probably best to get them all done at once.

I had mine all out at 18 because they were not coming in properly and causing me a lot of pain. I won't lie - it hurt. However, you'll get good pain medication and after a few days of eating soft foods you'll be fine.

A lot of people actually don't need their wisdom teeth out, it's just where the dentists make the majority of their money. Of course however, everyone's mouth is different on what they really need done so you can never know for sure unless you were your own dentist. Mine are all still in, even after being told they just HAD to come out (10 years ago). For myself I have never had a problem and actually looked into it because I haven't, that's how I found out about what I mentioned above (from my cousin in another state who is a dentist himself). It will hurt, and yes the more you have pulled out the worse it will feel. It is just up to you if you want to get it all done at once to get it over with, or space it out. I have had employees come back to work 4 days after having it done, and I could see they were in such pain still where I have had to send them home. So it may take a week or so to recover. Hope this info helps! Oh, and my teeth are perfectly straight (that was actually why I hesitated from having them pulled), even with them all still in.
