Tooth hurts when eat certin things..not cavity?!

Question: i know it's not a cavity but if i eat a certin thing in that tooth it hurts.. like a snickers bar it's like the sugar makes it hurt really bad just from touching it.. but i can eat tons of other things with sugar no problem.. i don't know what it is?

my dad thinks it's a cracked tooth but i looked that up and it doesn't hurt when i bite most things so it wouldn't make sense? i've had it for a while and the dentist didn't notice anything wrong and i wasn't about to invite him into giving me a root canal or something like that (i'm 15) so what could it be?

Sometimes a weakened area in the enamel/thin area can let cold, hot, and sugary things through to the nerves which begin to react and make you feel discomfort. This is especially common in younger people b/c they have much larger nerves in their teeth than older people. If you have had your dental checkup and been cleared then try a sensitive toothpaste to calm these large, over sensitive nerves. Any sensitivity toothpaste will work. The key is to brush the toothpaste on and spit (DO NOT RINSE) and wait 30 minutes to eat/drink. If you rinse after brushing you will rinse all the active ingredients off and the toothpaste will not help. Sensitivity toothpaste has an ingredient to calm the nerves as well as fluoride to help re-harden and strengthen the weak enamel. Also, always use a soft toothbrush b/c medium or hard bristled ones can make the sensitivity worse.

i was gonna say sounds like you may need a root canal- is it sensitive to hot/cold/air? if it hurts you really need to have the dentist look at it

That means that there is a "leak" in the filling. Tell your dentist you are sensitive to sweets and he should fix your filling (without charging you hopefully).

If you need a root canal, most insurances don't pay it in full. 15 would be a good age to get it, because you're still living under your parents, and because if you don't, it will only get worse.

I cracked a tooth when I was like 12, and the dentist told me it would need a root canal in about 10 years. Well, when you're 12, 10 is almost your whole life ago, so it didn't mean much to me. True to the dentist's word though, guess what happened when I turned 22. And that was painful!

My next root canal was recommended by a dentist 5-7 years before I actually had it done, and yes, I did it finally when I was having exteeme pain.
