Getting braces...T_T?!

Question: Hi I'm 16 and I'm getting braces. My orthodontist said that I only have to wear them for 9-12 months. At first I was very excited but now that I realized I'm getting them tomorrow I'm a little scared.

While your getting them done does it hurt alot?
Do they hurt badly afterwards?
Could I get some examples of what to eat I have them on?
...Maybe a few comforting words?

At first, i thought of getting "braces" and "retainers" as FASHIONABLE. (funny huh?) but yah, same as you are, when it was already time to get one, I was so terrified.
It TOTALLY and SERIOUSLY doesn't hurt when they put it in, but your teeth will ache the day after that until like 5days. You cannot eat well during the 5days period because when you munch/chew, it does hurt. But after that, everything will be alright.
The orthodontist will let you go back to the clinic after a month or 3 weeks because they'll start adjusting it. After every adjustments, the teeth will ache again. But you'll get used to it. Getting braces is actually worth it if you want to get your teeth straightened. its the fastest way to do it. You'll surly get your confidence to smile :)
Just dont eat a lot of popcorn, nuts, hard chocolates or anything hard. And never forget to brush your teeth well everyday. :)
Hope this helps.

i had braces for years! and it doesnt hurt but to badly. usually the worst was when they would change the rubber bands. they may cut your gums a bit while you are getting use to them. you can eat anything you want, just brush and floss alot :) i did and to this day i still have never had a cavitity. and trust me i ate TONS of candy...well not tons, but i had my fair bit of candy like all children do lol.

i have a bottom brace thats stayed glued to my botomt eeth to prevent crowding, and even now it sometimes cuts my tounge but not very often.

youll be ok! and just think how much better you'll feel about yourself when theyre off. iw as very thankful for mine. :) youll be ok! and lots of people will be around you to support you. and hopefullly youll have a nice dr. i did so i never minded going.

good luck!

my friends have had braces. but i haven't. they ate pudding, ice cream and soup for a lttle while. my friends said they hurt after you get them on for a few days and after you get then tightened. they don't seem to hurt a lot. the rubber bands apparentally hurt. it's nothing you can't take. good luck! ( the question that was above you when i went to answer this one is also about getting braces tomorrow that's weird. =)

well be lucky that yo dont have to wear them for that long!!!

and they dont really hurt getting them on...but after it hurts like he11.... for the next couple of days....you will only be able to eat smoothies....i couldnt even eat a soft piece of watermelon or a grape.....

but don't worry you will be happy with the results!!!!!

i don't have braces but i know that they help keep your teeth straight and you can't chew gum and it won't hurt . just close your eyes and it will be over in a second . i think they will make your teeth numb so it wont hurt

They hurt a little getting them put on, no more than a filling or such though, after that you will have real bad trouble eating for a while, but after that its as if they were not there , execpt when stuff gets stuck in em. Even the hardest things can be easten occisonly but not to often or they will snap and need to be fixed (like mine, american hard gums ftl xD). But you will forget they are even there soon, i wonder what its like for them to be off :p.

well when u get them u will feel wired n u play with ur braces with ur toung n lips lol but u will always think about thim after a while u get use 2 them n it doesn't hurt, eat anything with it n the hard part is cleaning it. after all that hard work ur teeth will look realy nice n stright which would make every 1 wants 2 kiss ya lol

Don't worry about a thing while they are putting them on it won't hurt at all just chill they do hurt after a couple hours though tomorrow try eating light food like soup ur teeth will feel like they are about to come of when you bite down. But u will be ok don't worry and good luck :)

I don't know what half of these people are talking about...
I have had braces for almost 8 months now, and 5 of those I had an expander (a metal arch across the top of your mouth to make your top jaw wider). It does not hurt a thing getting them put on, the only discomfort comes from all the things shoved in your mouth. It's just things to stop saliva getting on your teeth while they're working - so do not worry.

After you've got them on, they will start to hurt. It starts of slowly, peaks at a day/2 days then slowly subsides over a week.
I ate yogurt and fruit puree, I also drank a lot of water. When ever my teeth hurt I always thought to myself 'this means they're moving, this is good, pain means results'. Try eat a lot of gum, it really does help your teeth move and it allows you to chew real foods quicker.
Foods you can't eat... ermmm... I eat everything still. Your planner, the lady you talked to at the start of the process and explained what braces are and how much they'll cost to you will sit you and your parents down and explain EVERYTHING to you. What you can and can't eat, how to brush, when to brush, appointments, what to do if they break, etc... You have nothing to worry about, and make sure you know what colour bands you want on!
I suggest white if you're getting see through braces, if not, go for your fave colour!

Good luck ~ You won't need it. =P
